How One Writer Is Using Kickstarter To Resurrect Kim Jong-il

It’s no secret: late North Korean leader Kim Jong-il was a bit of an oddball, known as much for his self-produced monster movies as the iron fistthat he used to rule his nation. But what kind of man lies behind the caricature made popular in movies such as TeamAmerica: World Police and TV shows such as 30 Rock?
Through Dear Leader: The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Jong-il , a self-publishedbook project that is currently seeking funding through Kickstarter, celebrity ghostwriter Michael Malice is using his keyboard to get inside the head of the departeddespot. The book, which purports to be an “unofficial autobiography” seeks to simultaneously poke fun at perhaps the easiest person who ever lived to poke fun at, and use actual research to separate the myth from the man. I spoke with Malice about his book, the pecularities of Kim Jong-il, and whether writing this book has him fearing for his safety (spoiler:yes).
Pretend I’ve never met you. Describe the book.
This is the life story of Kim Jong-il, told from his perspective. It is also the world’s first “unauthorized autobiography,” and will literally be the greatest book ever written.
